Crusader Kings 2 was released a whopping seven years ago for PC, and even though it’s old as sin, it has a vibrant community around it who appreciate it’s painstaking, meticulous design and it’s no-compromise depth… even if it does terrify casual users, kind of like a historical version of Dwarf Fortress. In the seven years since it was released, the developer, Paradox, have released literally hundreds of dollars worth of DLC, and fans have created a mountain of mods, making it one of the most varied, detailed games in history.

And now, long overdue, it’s finally getting a sequel.

Not only is this exciting news for fans of Crusader Kings 2, it should be fairly exciting for people who have always been interested in the game but were too scared off by it’s extremely unfriendly design. One of the state goals of Crusader Kings 3 is to make it more newbie-friendly, while still keeping all the depth and complexity that make its predecessor so magical for some.

It’s set to launch in 2020, for Steam and on Xbox.
