Lots of people were really disappointed in No Man's Sky. I wasn't, but that was because I already knew it wasn't going to actually be fun. Gamers got confused about the awkward and vague wording of the features (especially the non-existant multiplayer) and learned the boring truth the hard way. However, those sad days may be behind us. And no, I'm not talking about Dual Universe this time. I'm talking about a game new to Early Access called Astroneer.
Astroneer takes the concept of exploration and world building and smacks it with a fun stick. Though the graphics are simpler and more cartoonish than No Man's Sky, the gameplay the visuals in the trailer alone are still pretty spectacular. Players also have full reign to interact with the world. They can shape terrain to their liking and build structures they need. And, of course, the worlds are procedurally generated.
To top it all off, Astroneer fully supports online multiplayer. It's amazing the difference a good friend or two can make when exploring planets. Instead of the game being a dull trek through palette-swapped planets, you're part of a team of friendly adventures, discovering everything a planet has to offer. And when you get bored of that, there's always the sky.
The game is in Early Access right now, so there's no better time to take to the stars. You can find Astroneer on Steam.
