Assassin's Creed: Syndicate to have Female Protagonist, Kinda

According to a source leaked to Kotaku, the next big Assassin’s Creed game, Syndicate, will include a playable female character.

The woman, which I’ve included in the above picture, is reportedly named Evie, who will be the sister of protagonist Jacob. While Jacob will be the ‘main’ character of the game, with his mission and story occupying about 75% of the game, Evie can be switched to at any time in the world map for traversal, and she gets the remaining 25% of missions for herself. The game will reportedly take place in Victorian England (Really? We can’t be out of new time periods already…) and focus heavily on the underground crime world at the time.

...and that’s pretty much it. We’ll learn more in the upcoming days as we approach the game’s fall release, and I’m sure it’s no mistake to say we’ll be seeing a lot of her in promotional material, now that Ubisoft is trying to shake off the reputation it earned itself for that whole “female assassins are too hard to animate, let’s ignore the demands of half the human population” thing.

A token effort, if the ratio of gameplay is any indication, but still, it’s a step in the right direction. The last time we saw a playable female assassin was Assassin’s Creed Chronicles, and more notably in Assassin’s Creed: Liberation, both of which were side games from the main series. Evie might not be the revolutionary new female protagonist we’re hoping for… you know, it’s still pretty nice. And a sign that Ubisoft is listening, if nothing else.
