This past May, we reported on Resident Evil 7 releasing on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. This was possible through the use of cloud processing, where the game was processed and rendered on a cloud server and then live streamed to the Nintendo Switch console. Now the same method is being applied to the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
While most people in the West were watching the English Nintendo Direct, the Japanese crowd were watching their own version. In the Japanese Direct, they announced Assassin's Creed: Odyssey for the console, using the same live streaming method as Resident Evil.
Due to the upkeeping nature of such a service, Resident Evil 7 was offered as a rental service instead of a one time buy. Users would pay about $18 for six months of access to the full game. Odyssey will be offering similar. Users can rent the game at a daily rate of $6.50, or as a full game. Details on this are not clear at this time.
In Japan, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey Cloud Edition will release on October 5, alongside the other console versions. Western audiences will have to settle for the game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
