There are a lot of video game movies that dont make it: The Bioshock movie, the Halo movie, the Gears of War movie, possibly the Uncharted movie... and there are an equal number that shouldnt have made it, like Super Mario Brothers, Silent Hill, and anything Uwe Boll has ever done.
But at least one project seems to have gotten the full go-ahead: the upcoming Assassins Creed movie. Not only are we being told that its definitively happening and that production has started, were even being told itll be released December 21st, 2016 so effectively two years from now. Thats a pretty tight time frame, considering!
Heres what else we know: it will star Michael Fassbender, of Inglourious Basterds and X-men: First Class fame and thats it.
...seriously thats all we know. We were told last year by the lead actor that the movie would be true to the games while still staking out in new directions, so if that means were getting a movie based off one of the pre-existing games and/or characters, or if were getting a new movie-exclusive assassin and time period, well have to wait until the first trailers released to find out.
So yeah, thats interesting. Still no news on the Splinter Cell, Watch_Dogs, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, and Raving Rabbit movies Ubisoft ALSO wants to produce, but Im sure were all on pins and needles.
