Hey, remember the Assassin's Creed movie?!
Well, get ready for a big fat exciting reminder!
Premiering on Jimmy Kimmel Live and having now gone to the interwebs, this trailer for the upcoming live-action version of the famous Ubisoft IP looks... well... damn good. Assassin's Creed always seemed to me like the kind of property that would do well in theaters, and this proves it quite nicely: we see nicely choreographed fights, impressive feats of acrobatics and parkour, and a bunch of future, sci-fi framing devices that no one really cares about.
Plus, it's exciting to see that the movie will be set in a new time period, rather than simply rehashing the events of a previous game. The Spanish Inquisition, too, is a great time period to visit, as it's one of those historical period where morality was pretty damn black and white, meaning all that plot complexity and ambiguity the games sometimes delve into can be nicely ignored.
The movie hits the silver screen come December 21st: perfect timing. What better time to celebrate the holidays than a movie full of jumping and stabbing?
I think this might be the first time I'm excited for anything Assassins-Creed related in a long time.
