According to Vice President of Bethesda, Pete Hines, in regards to the release:
"We're pleased the game can be released in its entirety in Germany without the need to edit or change anything. Perhaps not all that surprising given how other titles have been rated there recently, but still a cool thing to see given that DOOM and DOOM 2 were banned in Germany and were delisted a few years ago."
Basically, Bethesda appealed a ban for the franchise--the series were indexed by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons--and were successful in doing though in 2011. Fallout 3 has also been recently unbanned, so players can purchase the uncensored version in Germany.
And in regards to Fallout 4?
"Fallout 4 was released uncut and so in light of that we asked them to reconsider on Fallout 3, since the two games are pretty equivalent in terms of content, violence, etc. And they did, and so the worldwide version of Fallout 3 was delisted there."
Winner, winner, chicken dinner, Bethesda. DOOM will launch May 13 for Xbox One (which comes with free copies of the original DOOM and DOOM 2), PC, and PlayStation 4.
