Ark: Survival Evolved has caught the gaming community's eyes many times, and not always in a good way. Now it draws our attention once more when publisher Studio Wildcard announced that the game will be coming to mobile devices this spring for free.

The port will be handled by War Drum Studios, best known for the mobile ports of Bully and Grand Theft Auto, will be handling the project, according to a news release from Studio Wildcard. They also state that it will not be a separate game from the PC version. They plan for it to contain the same level of content, with admittedly lesser graphics.

A closed beta of Ark for iOS is happening today. If everything goes well there, War Drum and Studio Wildcard will launch the game on iOS and Android this spring. No word on how the free-to-play title will be profitable.

Ark: Survival Evolved originally launched on Steam Early Access in June 2015. Since then it would expand to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It sparked controversy when it released paid DLC on Steam before the game left Early Access in August 2017.
