Did you know that EA wanted to find its own "Rocket League," but it turned down a pitch for it in 2011?
Wow, talk about shooting yourself in the foot right there. EA Studios EVP Patrick Soderlund stated that he would have liked to be "the guy that found" Rocket League, when it was under EA's noses a few years ago. Whoops.
When talking to IGN about EA Originals, Soderlund stated that the the purpose of EA Originals was to find and support small games like Rocket League.
"Would I want to be the guy that found Rocket League? Yes. Would I want that to be an EA property? Of course I would like to. That's [the idea behind EA Originals].
For us to be able to find these people and help understand what they're building and help push it to market. For us to find something else."
When the story was published, Psyonix's design director Corey Davis tweeted the following:
"We actually pitched the game to EA Partners in 2011, so I'm not sure what would be different this time around!"
Wow, turned down and see what happens? EA really made a mistake turning it down. After all, it was revealed earlier this month that over 5 million copies was sold, and $100 million in revenue poured in.
Holy hell some of that could have been EA's dough.
