Apex Legends Season 1 is Here

It's a little underwhelming to be honest.

The Apex Legends Battle Pass, Season 1, is finally dropping today, March 19, at 10am PT/1pm ET. And with that news, we also got news on how the battle pass will work and what it will exactly contain.

There are two types of battle pass: the first will only cost 950 Apex Coins – about $10, or the cost of buying one of the locked-away characters – and will immediately unlock three relatively boring skins for Wrath, Lifeline, and Mirage. From there, every time your battle pass “levels up”, the player will earn a new reward, which can include intro lines, new stat trackers, weapon skins, apex coins (the premium currency), loot boxes, banner frames, and more.

Here’s what you can expect if you manage to reach level 100 by the end of the season:
  •  1000 Apex Coins (these can be put toward the next Battle Pass if you like)
  • Apex's first ever 3-stage Evolving Legendary Weapon Skin (Havoc)
  • Exclusive Epic PDW weapon skin
  • Legendary Apex Pack with Guaranteed 1+ Legendary
  • Epic Apex Pack with Guaranteed 1+ Epic
  • 5 standard Apex Packs
  • 3 Legend skins
  • 20 exclusive rare weapon skins
  • 9 exclusive banner frames
  • 9 exclusive intro quips
  • 9 exclusive seasonal stat trackers
  • Exclusive badges, Battle Pass boosts and more!
It’s important to note that your battle pass level and your player level are not the same. So don’t feel bad if you’re already level 50: for the purpose of this battle pass, you’re still considered level 1. You’ll also level up your battle pass regardless of if you buy it or not, and if you decide to buy your battle pass later, you’ll instantly get all the rewards you would have gotten if you had the pass since the beginning.

A few other things to note: there’s another version of the battle pass, called the Battle Pass Bundle, that costs 2800 Apex coins and catapults you to level 25 from the start. You can also not buy the battle pass and still earn a few small seasonal rewards, stat trackers loot boxes, just for participating in the season. You should also know you level up your battle pass faster by playing lots of different characters and that progress in this battle pass is not tied to in-game achievements (like in Fortnite), because EA and Respawn want people to focus on learning the basics of the game. That might change, however, in future seasons.

And finally, the first new character, Octane, is being added into the game at the same time as the battle pack. He’s a fairly straightforward fellow: his active allows you to spend some health to get a speed boost, his passive regenerates his HP when he’s not in active combat, and his ultimate places a jump pad that lets you take to the air on a whim.

So it looks like a pretty darn big deal for Apex Legends fans. I have to admit I’m not that excited for the Battle Pass itself, but… I might wind up buying it anyway.

Because I’m a bad person.
