Apex Legends Beats Fortnite on Twitch, and New Data Leaked for Future Updates

However, Fortnite is quickly getting ground back.

Fortnite was the most-streamed and most-watched game on Twitch for 11 whole months in a row, really solidifying the game as the number-one game in the whole wide world. But no king or crown lasts forever, because in a moderately shocking twist, the new top spot in February – both in highest peak number and average views – was Apex Legends, which actually had 670,000 people watching at its peak during the month.

Fortnite didn’t even take second place that month: it was beaten out, just barely, by League of Legends. So even if Respawn’s Battle Royale hadn’t taken the world by storm, Fortnite would have still taken the number two spot. Probably.

Still, it’s a long way from Fortnite’s lifetime peak of nearly 1.5 million, and just one month later things are turning around for Fortnite, now that season 8 has started and people have gotten used to Apex Legends. It seems Apex Legends is going to need something new if it plans to keep competing with Epic Games.

That seems likely, however. The Apex Legends battle pass is probably going to release this month, as well as a new character. On top of that, data miners have been chiseling through the game’s latest update, and they’ve found a lot of stuff that looks to make Apex Legends more exciting… and more distinct… from its competition. The content includes: flamethrowers, parkour (although if it’s for everyone or just one character, we don’t know) a day-night cycle, PvE content (apparently there’ll be NPC’s that will actually try to kill you at some point), and even remote turrets.

Any of those things could probably revitalize Respawn’s already slightly-aging Battle Royale, but of course, until we get official confirmation from the studio, it’s all just wishful thinking and speculation for the time being. Fingers crossed on the parkour, though.
