AOC's Among Us Stream Enters the Guinness Book of World Records

We knew that congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez broke some records when she held an Among Us livestream on Twitch last year. But as it turns out, the event was World Record breaking in the eyes of Guinness. The AOC broadcast has officially been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for most successful debut stream.

Found on the HasanAbi Subreddit (and brought to our attention by TheGamer), one user shared a photo of the most recent Guinness Book of World Records. The page shown lists AOC as the Most viewers for a debut stream on Twitch.
 

On 19 Oct 2020, US politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitch to play Among Us (Innersloth, 2018) as part of a voter outreach event, drawing 439,000 concurrent viewers at the streams peak. She was joined by streamers HasanAbi and Pokimane and fellow congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

The stream, as they indicated, was an effort to encourage viewers to be ready and registered to vote for the 2020 election. We saw guests like Pokimane HasanAbi, Dr Lupo, and Duigused Toast come in and out of the event.

AOC, a progressive democrat, actually has a history of making a large influence on Twitch. Not too long before this, she appeared in a charity stream organized by Hbomberguy. This event was a full 100% play through of Donkey Kong 64, and managed to raise $340,000 for Mermaids, a charity organization that supports transgender youths. During her appearance, she talked her long-time fondness for gaming as a kid and expressed her direct support for trans rights.

Regardless of your political standing, theres no denying that the AOC Among Us stream was an ingenious effort by her and her organizers. And it paid off perfectly.
