Anti-Vaxxers Are Being Added to Plague Inc.

When history looks back on the history of the anti-vaxxers – a movement of extremely stupid people who believe extremely stupid things and are killing people, unvaccinated or not, in the process – it’ll be hard-pressed to find anything good about this little chunk of our history. But it won’t be impossible: because if there’s at least one good thing to come from this terrible group, it’s that they might make infecting Madagascar easier next time you play Plague Inc.

Here’s the situation: fans with an excellent sense of humor decided to start a petition to ask the developers, Ndemic Creations, to add anti-vaxxers to the game as a buff for your virus, which would help your unique brand of disease spread further, faster, and become more resilient to efforts to fight it. The developers acknowledged and supported the petition, and now that it’s hit the required 10,000 signatures, the developer has promised to add anti-vaxxers in a future patch.

This wouldn’t be the first time Plague, Inc. has been updated to represent current events. They did a tie-in event in 2014 where they added the “Simian Flu” virus to promote “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” They also teamed up with the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation back in 2013 to raise awareness of, you guessed it, Pulmonary Fibrosis. You can also make zombies, which is always topical.

If there was any other good news – and this is only tangentially related to the topic at hand – it’s that the anti-vaxx movement has been the target of many new laws and practices as of late. Hopefully there’ll be a day soon where the world can unite and conquer this blight upon our population, but for the time being, all we can do is act to prevent this particular brand of stupid from spreading.

Although, to be fair, diseases are helping with that. Because, you know, they’re not vaccinated.
