Micheal Gamble, the lead producer of the upcoming BioWare RPG shooter Anthem, spoke on Twitter about the games monetization practices after a few comments by an angry internet-goer.
We aren't going to add loot boxes. It serves no purpose. The cosmetics and mtx plan is what we've outlined. Legion of dawn is 4 new armour packs. They aren't just skins. Each javelin has 4 armour bits. You get 16 with LOD + wpn + other goodies.
In short: No loot boxes, yes cosmetic and item purchases.
The fullness of Anthem's microtransaction setup hasn't been fully revealed at this time. Some details have been given, such as the Legion of dawn armor pack, but not the full extent of their implementation. EA has a history of diminishing the enjoyment of a game to encourage microtransaction purchases. We all remember the controversy that surrounded Star Wars Battlefront 2.
While it'd be preferable that the game didn't have microtransactions of any sort, that angry internet-goer was still super rude. Don't be like them.
For those uncertain about Anthem, beta access will be released in a few weeks. Otherwise, the full game releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on February 22.
