According to Sarah E. Needleman, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, EA has stated that the change in date is not due to developmental reasons, but because they intend to release a new Battlefield title in October and believe it would be better to move Anthem to "a quieter quarter." Blake Jorgensen had this to say:
It's not a delay. People are trying to create a story.
This statement was in response to Kotaku, who previously claimed that the delay was due to development being behind schedule.
A decision like this is in no way a surprise. October is around that holiday season, a time that publishers save their biggest money-makers for. To put a more profitable (and less controversial) game like Battlefield in the October slot makes a great deal more sense. Had Anthem released then, it would have no doubt been overshadowed. Not just by Battlefield, but also by the competition as well.
