Man, things have been getting crazy over at Ubisoft. At least, for all things regarding The Division.
We kicked this week off with Ubisoft vowing to punish people who took advantage of one of the few positive glitches that the players were able to discover in the game, allowing people to sidestep a boss in their end-game raid instance and get all the sweet loot risk-free. This was met with anger, and Ubisoft responded by offering people free Phoenix Credits: a whole bunch for people affected by the Backpack glitch from all those weeks ago, and a nice little boost for everyone else to apologize for the lack of daily updates.
So maybe, we were hoping, that was the end of that: we could forget about the Division and just let it do its thing. But no. Life is never that kind. For now, players have discovered yet ANOTHER glitch/exploit in the game... but unlike the relatively harmless Falcon Down glitch, this one could theoretically do some serious harm.
Basically: there's a gun talent in the game called Competent, which gives you a boost in DPS when you use an ability. Well, as it turns out, there's a specific AK-47 in the game with such an ability, that's purchasable with Phoenix Credits. Once you have it, equip it, then equip another gun, then equip it again, and repeat. Every time you switch guns, the talent will trigger and stack... and "hold" the charge until you take your next shot.
With this trick, you can theoretically go to astronomic levels of damage, as this youtuber shows us:
So, you can one-shot bosses, tough enemies, or more worrisome, other players in the Dark Zone. That, as you might say, is a problem: certainly a bigger issue than whatever's going on in Falcon Down.
Now, this exploit is public--obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be reporting on it--so Ubisoft has to be working to fix it. That said, their debuggers must be working overtime as of late, because this is just the latest in a string of game-breaking bugs and glitches that plague the game. Now, Ubisoft is obviously no stranger to bugs, they are the company behind Assassin's Creed after all, but given that this is a multiplayer game and every glitch/bug has serious consequences... it's proven to be a huge pain in the ass for players, and probably making more than a few season pass holders regret their decisions.
Regardless. Unlike the Falcon Down cheat, this glitch might be worth punishing--at least, if you use it in PvP. That's a dick move. Otherwise... well... i suppose it's ultimately up to Ubisoft.
