Among Us was one of the most popular games of 2020, and is still holding strong this year. Theyre not just kicking back and soaking in the success, though. An upcoming development roadmap has been released, teasing some exciting new features.
The roadmap, in the form of a fun trailer, was showcased on Thursday with the Summer Games Fest hosted by Geoff Keighley. In it, were shown upcoming additions like new game modes, roles, colors, cosmetics, and even a new map.
The first thing we see is the new game mode, Hide and Seek. The player, holding the Imposter role, is moving around the map, looking for other players. Not much is known about the rules, but we can take a guess.
Next is new roles within the game. Some roles shown were the Sheriff and the Scientist. While we dont know for certain what abilities they have, they might work similarly to popular game mods that add in such roles (the sheriff can kill an imposter mid-match, for example).
How about personalization? They revealed new color options, including Coral, Tan, Rose, Maroon, Banana, and Gray. Not enough? How about an entire new cosmetic option? Soon, Visor Cosmetics will be available, allowing players to choose from a variety of front placed fashion items for their characters.
For folks looking for specific motivations, theyre adding Achievements. Like how it works with most games, these are optional challenges that the player can complete. The example given was to get five total kills as an imposter. No word whether the player will be rewarded for completing achievements, or if itll purely be for the glory. We assume that these will also sync with console and Steam achievement systems.
The final bit to be revealed was the next map! Currently called Map 5, the development team is working on a new location to play at. While they showed off the location, the literally only showed a single item in a small box. It looks like a button on a pedestal, I think.
If you want something more immediate, players can get a limited edition Geoff Keighley mask for their characters via a Twitch Drop. They did this previously, making this the second chance for anyone that missed out.
As far as Among Us news is concerned, this met our expectations and then some. But despite our satisfaction, more is said to be on the way. According to Innersoth community manager Victoria Tran, (...we're not done yet for E3 though)
Stay tuned for whatever shes referring to.
