Far Cry 5 is comin’ out real soon, and if there was ever a time for Ubisoft to whip out the big marketing guns to get people interested in this controversial title, it would be now. Which is probably why they’ve just announced that they’ll be partnering up with Amazon Prime to release a live-action prequel to the game next week.
Far Cry 5: Inside Eden’s Gate, a short film inspired by Far Cry 5, premieres on March 5 on Amazon Prime Video. Watch the announcement trailer and delve deeper into the Project at Eden’s Gate and its ruthless leader, Joseph Seed.
The short looks to be a mockumentary about two guys who go to Montana to learn more about the cult Eden’s Gate, and, just a wild guess here, things go bad for them at some point. I doubt it’ll be a very long watch when it comes out next week, so if you’re even remotely curious about the story it might be worth a watch. Assuming it’s well-acted, of course.
There was a small controversy surrounding the game when it first launched, as racists who had been okay with shooting up African and Malaysian extremists were deeply concerned to see their white homeland getting the same treatment. Ubisoft hasn’t seemed to back down in the light of that stupid, stupid group, but we’ll have to see how far they actually take things when the game launches proper. Although this trailer might be a good way to gauge just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
Far Cry 5 launches later this month, on March 27.
