Head of Xbox Phil Spencer stirred up some controversy with his rather blunt, and questionable remark on the matter, stating that a "vast majority" of players were playing over Xbox Live instead of locally. Fans questioned the authenticity of his claims, but the decision was ultimately made to keep split-screen out of the game. It's been a dark time for couch co-op in the world of Halo, but finally, we've reached the light at the end of the tunnel.
During Bonnie Ross's speech at the D.I.C.E conference today, the general manager of 343 industries made an honorable comment about the decision to remove split-screen from Halo 5: Guardians.
"When we didn't put split screen in Halo 5, it was incredibly painful for the community and for us. I think it erodes trust with the community, as the community is a part of our world building."
After finally showing some remorse for the community, Bonnie Ross ended the speech with something that will without a doubt warm the hearts of every Halo fan across the planet. We can finally rejoice knowing that when Halo 6 is released, with it comes the sweet, sweet freedom of split-screen.
"For any FPS, we will always have split screen support going forward,"
