Aliens Invade Team Fortress 2, Kind Of

Team Fortress 2 is a game where… I’m not actually sure anymore. Things happen, that’s indisputable, but a rather straightforward premise has been derailed completely as Valve continues to let people just… do whatever they want with the game. Between the mods and events and the… just general insanity surrounding the game, it’s almost impossible to predict anything, save the fact that hats will be involved in some form or another.

Well, the next big Team Fortress thing is here--a community-designed event called Invasion. Check out the trailer below.



But it’s not like the Mann vs Machine mode or anything--we won’t actually be fighting martians. Rather, it's a collection of space-themed maps, weapons, and gear will be falling into the laps of any players willing to pay for it… not once, but twice.

First, you have to go to the store and buy an Invasion Token--that will give you the chance to find special loot crates full of invasion stuff, which you will have to unlock normally with special keys. So you’re paying for the chance to get something you have to pay to open... Which is a kind of un-Valve way to go about things. That’s the crap I’d expect Konami or Ubisoft or EA to pull, not Valve...

Well, the Invasion lasts a month, so you have a solid four weeks to decide if it’s worth your time. At least the maps are free.
