Developer of Murdered: Soul Suspect and Quantum Conundrum may have shut it's doors for good

Bad news comes in threes, they say, and it seems we found our bad news number two: while people are still speculating, wondering if Crytek is going to close soon or not, another company is apparently shutting its doors for real—Airtight Games.

They’re not the kind of company whose name you’d recognize, but you might know some of their games: they recently released Murdered: Soul Suspect, and they also released Soul Fjord and Quantum Conundrum.  So they were pretty much “alright” when it came to the quality of their games, but apparently “Alright” didn’t cut it.

We learn this thanks to Geekwire, who had decided to visit their Redmond Office only to find the building completely shut down, with a sign up front offering to sell their office equipment at “blowout prices”.  Earlier this year the company laid off 14 employees, but at the time it was called “part of the normal ebb and flow of game production”—was it perhaps a more serious sign then they let on?

Either way, it looks like the end of the short-lived company.  It’s a pity, but not a tragedy, I guess.  It’s not as if they had a long history in the field and none of their games could be called a classic, so… bummer for the families involved, thought.  There’s been no official word from the company itself, but I’ll keep you posted if they decide to comment on the discovery.

UPDATE: It seems there was no question about it--Airtight Games officially confirmed their closing over Twitter.   "Thanks to all the fans, family, friends and colleagues who supported us and made the last 10 years possible.  Thanks to all of the amazing people who worked on Dark Void, Quantum Conundrum, Murdered, Soul Fjord, Pixld and DerpBike."

Former employee Lee Scheinbeim also tweeted, saying "I've been in the game industry 8 years and I'm lucky in the sense that this is my first layoff. "It's kind of weird how little most gamers know about how devs/publishers work especially in terms of finances."

So there you have it.  Goodbye, Airtight Games.  You will be missed.
