In a recent Oxford study, it has been shown that aggression caused by video games is linked to losing the game, not violent tendencies. When a player dies, or loses a race, it triggers a response of frustration, and that response only grows as more loss grows. Another factor of aggressive tendencies is also linked to difficulty of the game itself, as complicated tasks tend to frustrate people as a whole. The violence in video games themselves is much less of the cause itself than the frustration of loss or difficulty.
WAIT, WHAT? NOOOO. Video games are the devil! It couldn't possibly be a general theme of being really annoyed at something like putting in an effort and still failing at it! Seriously, though, loss really IS something that generally pisses people off. Just look at the Vancouver Riots, a single hockey team loses, and people lose their minds in such an intense fashion that it results in looting and destruction in a country that is known for being peaceful and relaxed. I myself will stop playing a game if it gets too irritating to me, because it usually results in a crappy cycle of doing worse because of frustration, then losing more, then getting more frustrated, you get the picture.
Keep it calm, everybody, and try not to set your consoles on fire.
