So here's a bit of a welcome surprise: turns out that Adventures of Mana, the remake of Final Fantasy Adventure, has unexpectedly landed on the PlayStation Vita today. According to the PlayStation Blog and from what we've already gathered from the Android and iOS versions, the PS Vita version will feature enhanced 3D visuals, revamped menus, and a rearranged soundtrack. However, if you want the original music, you can always switch to that option.

As for the plot and gameplay? Well, it's an action-RPG set in a world with Mt. Illusia, a mountain that plays host to the sacred Tree of Mana, which draws life energy from celestial aether. However, the protector grows ever silent, as the Dark Lord of Glaive seeks out the tree's eternal power. You slip into the roles of a gladiator who is indentured to the Duchy of Glaive and thus is forced to fight exotic beasts for the Dark Lord's amusement. If these gladiators emerge victorious, they are thrown back into the dungeons with only bread until they face their next foe. Some just do not make it in the end... save for our hero.

Well in response to the launch:

"When Adventures of Mana was originally released, a lot of PS Vita owners were disappointed that we couldn't launch it worldwide at the time. Since then, the development team [has] been working extremely hard to bring it over so I'm really happy to let you guys know that your voices were heard and the team is really happy to bring Adventures of Mana to the PS Vita community and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mana series with you all."

Adventures of Mana is currently $13.99 on the PlayStation Vita.

It's like Sword of Mana never existed.
