Huh, here's something interesting, and probably is the reason why FPS campaigns are being dropped nowadays. According to Cliff Bleszinski, the man behind Lawbreakers, campaigns take up more of a budget than typically expected. During a PC Gamer interview, he mentions how the trend to drop campaigns relates to the budget. Campaigns just tend to cost the most money.

"They usually cost 75% of the budget. And you burn through the campaign in a weekend, and then [players] go to multiplayer."


Well, that would explain a lot, I suppose, especially with the costs of game development nowadays anyway. You can check out PC Gamer's full interview here.
