Distribution and production company Entertainment One has signed with Machinima, who developed Street Fighter: Assassins Fist, a web series that debuted in 2014. Capcom has even given the green light to the project.
The show will reportedly be based on the story from 1991s Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior. We can expect familiar characters like Ryu, Ken, M. Bison, Guile, and Chun-Li.
Mark Gordon, the Entertainment One president, will be personally involved in the show's development. Gordon's previous company, now owned by Entertainment One, was responsible for projects like Saving Private Ryan, Greys Anatomy, and SPeed.
Yoshinori Ono, Capcoms executive producer on the Street Fighter series announced the partnership.
"After a long search, guided by the team behind Assassins Fist, we are delighted to be partnering with a company with the outstanding TV experience of Mark Gordon and eOne. They have the credentials to help us launch a faithful adaptation of Street Fighter as a major TV series."
The Assassin's Fist was a 12 part web series produced by Machinima and released on YouTube. Originally a Kickstarter project, the crowdfunding campaign was canceled when a private investor found the project and provided funding. The series can now be found on Amazon Video to purchase/rent, as well as on Netflix and Hulu as part of their streaming service.
