It's not very long.

On May 25, Souls fans from around the world will get the chance to delve back into the undead-infested lands of Lordran to die over and over again in their quest to extend the age of fire or usher in the age of man. Dark Souls: Remastered will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC, and with it, a host of updates to the graphics and the power of this now seven-year-old game. But if you’re one of the people who played the first original game about a billion times, you might be wondering if it’s worth spending your money on this new game… or, rather, if they’ve changed anything that might make it worth picking up again.

The short answer is no. To save your time from reading the rest of the article, if you were hoping for any new content, you’re going to be disappointed, as there’s none to offer.

But just because there’s no new content doesn’t mean it’s completely the same. The online components have been updated so it’s more like Dark Souls 3, where up to six people can share a world rather than just four, with the Dried Finger (an item that makes that possible) being available way earlier in the game. Password matching is back, so you can be sure to play with your friends cooperatively if you so desire, and your soul level and item levels will be equalized with the host to assure balanced play.

Oh, and when you do PvP, you can only use Estus flasks: and much like Dark Souls 3, all phantoms will only have access to have of their Estus at any given time.

The bonfire has been changed a bit too; a single new bonfire was added in front of Vamos, and you can now change covenants from the bonfire too.

Other assorted changes:
  • The Arena will support 3v3 team and six-player death match now, as well as password matching and random respawn points
  • Online network is now a dedicated server rather than P2P
  • Players can now turn on/off regional matchmaking]
  • Players can now prevent matched red phantom players from seeing your “White Sign Soapstone” sign via option
  • Players can no longer summon ally phantoms consecutively when in combat with enemy phantoms
  • You can use more than one item in a stack at a time
And that’s it. If you were hoping for any surprises, prepare to be disappointed, unless they decide to give some use to the Pendant, which I wouldn’t expect. Still, for Dark Souls purists, it’s probably exactly all they wanted. Praise the Sun!
