Star Citizen, the upcoming space simulator brought to you by Chris Roberts, acclaimed creator of Wing Commander and Freelancer, has been progressing incredibly well. Millions of dollars - over $83 million, to be exact - have been pouring into the project, granting the development team vast possibilities and a fully realized vision.
As we know, the project is going to be huge. But to give you a further idea of exactly how huge, 48GB of work-in-progress files have been leaked by a couple people outside of Cloud Imperium Games. The link has since been shut down, but the assets are still lingering around the Internet; fortunately for fans, these assets have been mashed together and loaded in Cryengine. Below is the video containing the leaked assets:
Of course, this is far from what we will see in the finished product. Thank goodness, considering some of these areas look completely off and downright unappealing. In fact, these assets may not even be used in Star Citizen. The video appears to examine the lush environments and the massive ships and corridors. In the meantime, look forward to more leaks and official announcements of Star Citizen.
Star Citizen aims to achieve a new-found level of realism by offering a large, unique universe with literally unlimited gameplay, full-featured physics simulation, six degrees of freedom, a fully-realized death mechanic (yes, permanent death), amazing combat, and mysterious enemies. Star Citizen definitely boasts "unparalleled immersion," but will it live up to its claims?
Probably, with $83 million to back up said claim.
Players will be able to take advantage of exploration and chart unknown regions. They will also be able to defend their regions from invaders, fully customize a vast array of ships, and play as a variety of roles - merchant or pirate, the choice is yours! Just remember that every decision counts.
