Over time, Halo has gotten extremely complex, spanning several games and books. So for those that want to delve into the story of Halo, it can be pretty tough. So with that said, there's a solution coming out soon, titled Halo Mythos: A Guide to the Story of Halo. Halo Mythos, a hardcover book, was recently announced by 343 on the Halo Waypoint blog, and it's to be released next October... so it will be awhile before you get any official mythos guide.

The blog points out that it isn't another Halo encyclopedia, but instead a walkthrough of the Halo fiction spanning over 100,000 years, meaning that readers will be able to follow a narrative from the novels, comics, and live-action films/shows. Additionally, there will be more than fifty pieces of new artwork specifically made for this Halo timeline.

So if you are unsure about jumping into Halo 5's campaign because you've no full understanding of the universe, then maybe it's best to wait a year before you dive into its campaign, because this mythos definitely seems to be worth keeping an eye out for, for both newbies and veterans alike.
