Playing video games can lead to great, creative careers. There are many children, fans of video games, who grow up and pray for the perfect opportunity to make a living playing games. A few years ago, there have been a few jobs available where one could play video games, but those jobs have been attached to repetitious, face-into-the-desk gameplay and various reports, which has required a hefty amount of knowledge of the English language (or some other language, depending). Nowadays, that is no longer the case. With the advent of personal streaming, new ways to earn money has arisen.
There are plenty of people who have been able to earn a living off just streaming video games. Recently, we find that three Floridian guys have succeeding in making their dream become a reality. Robert Schill, 26, Adam Young, 29, and Brett Borden, 26, stream video games as a group, taking 8 hour shifts each, 7 days a week. They broadcast games via StreamerHouse, a channel found on Twitch.tv. They have a “reality show” style setup settled in a 1920s era Mediterranean-revival style home. Inside the house are 20 cameras that record the men playing video games, interacting with fans, and narrating their lives. They make their income through four different sources: Twitch advertising, subscriptions, video game sales, and through fan donation. They talk and entertain fellow gamers, living the dream. It does take a lot of work, however, but it appears that this is worth it. Though it seems like StreamerHouse, alongside other people involved in “gaming content production,” make a very great living off of their interaction with the fans, it is a tough market to enter. A needle certainly needs to shine when streaming a game, because there is far too much hay on the Internet.
