20th Century Fox will be Producing a Mega Man Movie

Hopefully in 8-Bit. That'd be hilarious.

While video-game movies have never been a wildly successful proposition. The BioShock movie failed, Pixels was a pile of 8-bit vomit, the Super Mario Bros movie was… well, trope defining, and anything Uwe Boll touched can legally be defined as contaminated toxic waste. From the top of my head, the only decent video game movies are those Resident Evil movies (which have all the campy energy and whacky pseudo-horror of the games that inspired them) and that Prince of Persia movie, which was good, but not… you know… good.

Well, that hasn’t stopped movie companies from trying (looking at you, Warcraft), and now another company has decided to throw its hat into the fray--20th Century Fox, who just announced that they’ll be making a new Mega Man movie.

Yep, the blue bomber will hopefully not be dropping any bombs on the silver screen in a few short years. Now, while there’s very little we know about this movie, we do know this: David Ready and Michael Finfer are overseeing the film, while Peter Chernin produces it. That’s important because those are the same people who brought you the most recent Planet of the Apes movies, which have all been pretty good. Does this mean it’ll be a live-action, gritty origin story? Will we have a human main character while Mega Man himself is a side-show in his own film? Will Sheep Man show up?! All these questions and more we have… no answer for. None. Not even if it’ll be Mega Man classic or Mega Man X.

Time will tell, I suppose. In the meantime, why don’t we watch Wreck-It Ralph again? Now that was a video game movie that seriously rocked, and it wasn’t even about any particular video game!
