We discussed a few months ago how the Video Game Hall of Fame had just announced the 2016 finalists for the next six games that would join the ranks of the most influential games. Well, now the final six have been announced, and: no, Pokemon is not among them.
Don't worry, Pokefreaks. We'll get your due someday.
Anyway. The six games chosen from this year's lot includes some unsurprising victors: The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Invaders... but also included some dark horses, namely the Sims, Oregon Trail, and GTA 3, which are all great games, but, you know... aren't Pokemon. I mean seriously all respect to these guys but this is freaking Pokemon we're talking about!
Bah. They had fine reasons for all the finalists. Space Invaders sparked an arcade craze, Oregon Trail was a trailblazer (pun very much intended) for educational games, GTA 3 reignited debates on censorship within the industry, the Sims radically revolutionized what could be called a "game", and both Sonic the Hedgehog as well as The Legend of Zelda don't really need an explanation, as their merits validate their place in the finals alone.
...which is how I feel about Pokemon, dammit. We'll get em' next year! Just you wait, 2017!
