If you recall, earlier we discussed that Sony was going to double the storage in the PS4 by jacking up the storage to one terabyte worth of data—well, that rumor, gleamed from the hidden, archaic halls of the FCC, is now official. Sony has just announced on the PlayStation blog that the so-called “Ultimate Player 1TB Edition" will soon be available in about a month.
This “Ultimate Player” will, supposedly, not only have more memory, it will also weigh a bit less, take up a little less space, and use a little less electricity. So, basically, it’s just more efficient, and has all that extra space to boot.
Now here’s the disheartening bit: for one thing, the new hardware’s only going to be available to Europe and the PAL regions at first, with a worldwide release withheld for another date. The second thing, worryingly, is that Sony won’t tell us how much it costs—it merely requests that people ‘check their local distributors’ for prices.
If Sony’s not going to be forthcoming with that information, well… it bodes badly. Then again, for a TB of hard drive space, I guess we could have guessed from the beginning it would be expensive.
But at least we know it’s real now. So… that’s something.
