Recall Battlezone? Not the 1980 Atari game, but the 1998 Activision game?
If you haven't heard of the series, 1998's Battlezone is actually the remake of the 1980 Atari arcade game, which combines tank simulation, first-person shooter mechanics, and real-time strategy mechanics to form a high-quality, unique product. Battlezone is similar to the other RTSes, but the difference lies in the complete utilization of the first-person perspective. Players must construct new units and buildings using the primary material bio-metal scrap, in order to create an army capable of controlling bio-metal deposits across the solar system.
Activision's version was very much beloved, to the point that developer Rebellion, developer of Sniper Elite III who now owns the rights to Battlezone, will be remastering the 1998 PC title. Besides the PC version, the studio is also working on a virtual reality version that will be based on the original 1980 Atari game of the same name.
Unfortunately, there is little said on the details of the game, but the developer promises more information in the future. Still, good news for fans of the franchise, especially when they're given what they've asked. Additionally, it would give newcomers a remastered, captivating experience, which could ultimately lead into the growth of the franchise.
