BlizzCon was this weekend, which was why the gaming world has been abuzz with news and information coming from what is now the Gaming Industry's biggest content producer. While I wasn’t able to attend this year--or last year, or the year before that, or any year, really--I was still keeping a keen eye on what all went down, and I’m excited to share with you some things you’ve… well… probably already heard at this point, honestly, but maybe you’ll still learn something.
Perhaps the most exciting bit of news to come out of BlizzCon was our first real, official trailer for the upcoming Warcraft Film. Check it out below:
You might notice two things: for one, this is not a World of Warcraft movie, as we first anticipated, but rather a standard Warcraft movie, as in, the first RTS that inspired the whole series. While we see orcs and humans abound, it is disappointingly scarce of Dwarves or Elves or Tauren or Goblins or many of the colorful species that inhabit Azeroth--which is kind of a pity, but hey, might as well start at the beginning, right?
Speaking of beginnings, though, veteran Warcraft fans also likely realized that this isn’t right. Or, more specifically, that what we see of this movie via the trailer doesn’t follow the script of the games. It seems there’s some dissent within the Orc tribes, with some of them lead by Durotan looking to avoid war with humans. I suppose that makes sense--if it were just two hours of battles it would get quite tiring after a while, and World of Warcraft already established the fact there are different timelines and alternate universes for all events--but still, for people looking forward to a faithful retelling of the game’s lore, they might walk away a bit miffed.
That said--it still looks swell as all balls. Consider me pumped.
