A humble sum for a humble studio

With the support and money frpm a team of investors and a partnership with Capital Today, ThatGameCompany of Flower, flOw, and Journey fame have raised a cool 7 million dollars to produce their next project, which right now is unnamed.

"Our investors are expecting a lot more from us than an indie developer with an artistic game, but they're also looking for something different from a typical mobile or social game studio," Studio Manager Sunni Pavlovic said. "I have to give our investors a lot of credit for seeing the landscape differently and believing in our vision for interactive entertainment."

Now, in the triple-A business, seven million dollars is nothing; your standard triple-A title costs at least ninety million dollars just to get started.  But for a small company like ThatGameCompany, who developed Journey with a measly 5.5  million dollar startup (and working every cent of that money until they were technically bankrupt), seven million is actually a pretty good payday…. And they’ve already gotten started on their next project.

"Since finishing Journey, the team has been hard at work to make an emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds," Pavlovic continued to write on the company website.

There’s no word on exactly what this new project will be, but considering their history, we can expect it to be unique, if nothing else.
