Sega Releases a Sonic Mania Christmas Special

It's cute.

It’s December 21st – three days from the merriest day of the year, and four days from the loudest and most obnoxious (at least, is you have or live with kids). People and companies are celebrating all around the world, and that includes our good friend Sega, who decided to gift all the good boys and girls with an extra-special treat: an unexpected part six to their presumed-finished Sonic Mania animations! I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Metal Sonic and Eggman crash into the jungle after being defeated. Broken, abandoned, and alone as seasons pass and the skies turn cold, a surprise appearance may change Metal Sonic's fate forever.

We were so excited to work on this bonus holiday short of Sonic Mania Adventures for you all - a little something to celebrate the spirit of giving, and the kindness that can warm even the coldest of hearts.

Happy Holidays, from all of us at SEGA!

Probably the most exciting thing in this video – or the meanest trick – is that it stars Amy Rose, the last major character from the classic Sonic games who hasn’t yet shown up in Sonic Mania, despite fans asking for her. This video sort of re-ignited that conversation, although I think most people understand that at this point Sonic Mania is more-or-less finished and expecting any kind of update with her included would be asking a bit much.

But a Sonic Mania 2 with Amy in it…?

Well, it ultimately doesn’t matter. Regardless of if this is a clue or a teaser (or, more likely, neither of those), it’s cute and it’s fun and it’s festive, which is exactly what we need more of this holiday season. And it’s not too late for some other company to try to out-flex Sega.

Please, guys? I need more cute.
