BlizzCon 2019 took place over the weekend and all sorts of new gaming information was revealed with it. The biggest announcement is arguably the reveal of Overwatch 2.

Plenty of details were revealed about the game at the weekend event. Some of the biggest bits include new character designs, a new hero named Sojourn, a story mode, and backwards compatibility.

New Character Details

You likely noticed that all of the classic Overwatch characters have new outfits and model designs. But the fresh style extends beyond that. In Overwatch 2, you'll be able to level up your heroes, unlocking new skills and abilities with new levels.

Sojourn

What's a new game without a new hero? Sojourn has been confirmed as the first new playable character. Not much is known about the fighter at this time, but they've been around in Overwatch lore since the early age of the game, appearing as one of the heroes that Winston contacts.

Story Mode

When asked why to make a second game, one answer given was to give a greater focus on the non-multiplayer aspects. This includes the addition of a story mode. Details of the mode are scarce, but they will be playable as a single-player mode, expanding on the lore of the Overwatch universe.

PvE

For the more cooperative players, Overwatch 2 will feature a player vs environment mode. Here, multiple heroes will work together to fight against swarms of computer AI enemies and large boss battles.

Backwards Compatibility

While onstage, game director Jeff Kaplan explained that all of the player's efforts in the original game will transfer forward into Overwatch 2. This includes cosmetic earnings, emotes, character skins, and so on. More than that, though, Overwatch 1 players will be able to queue up with Overwatch 2 games that are in the same maps and characters.

Overwatch 2 will release at some point in the future for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
