Netflix Announces a Dragon's Dogma Anime

Consider me hyped.

If, for some reason, you’ve been obsessively following my every post and notating my every opinion, then congratulations on being a weirdo. But you’d also probably remember that I’m a real big fan of Dragon’s Dogma, a high-fantasy RPG released in 2012 by Capcom (and re-released by them about a billion times) that was directed by Hideaki Itsuno, the guy behind Devil May Cry. The last big “Dragon’s Dogma” news was that the game was being re-released on the Switch soon, which to many fans was a good sign that Capcom hadn’t forgotten the series – and might soon announce a sequel.

And while today we still have no news of a sequel, we have more evidence that Capcom is at least interested in the IP still, because it was announced by Netflix that they’d be partnering up with Sublimation to create a Dragon’s Dogma anime series.

"Based on a world-famous action RPG set in an open world, Dragon’s Dogma from CAPCOM will be brought to life as a Netflix original anime series. The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an Arisen. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans."

So the basics of the plot outline are pulled straight from the game, but they also added a new twist with the demons. Alright, I’m on board. The animation style will be the fairly standard cell-shaded with hand-drawn textures style we’re seeing a lot of these days.

Netflix didn’t announce a release date for this project, but that’s okay; the fact that they’re even working on it at all is enough to bring a smile to my face. Even if it is as bad as their Castlevania show.

Yes, I still think it’s bad. You should know that already, ya stalker.
