Last we spoke about Dr DisRespect was never, because I don’t care about him or his professional antics, but if you have been keeping up with the news around him, you’ll have likely heard that despite his enormous popularity on Twitch streaming PUBG, he took a break for a month after admitting on the stream that he was unfaithful to his wife and he had to focus on his personal life for a time.
Typically, his grand return wouldn’t warrant mention either, but apparently I had underestimated the man’s appeal: because it’s been reported that through his comeback stream, he was able to reach 387,000 concurrent viewers—which smashed the record set for views for an individual streamer, and even took Twitch down for a little while as it struggled to deal with the influx of users.
At least, that’s what Dr DisRespect is claiming: the website did have some hiccups here and there but considering it was able to manage the 1.1 million people who tuned in to watch E3 last year, it was probably just a coincidence.
All the same, his popularity is hard to deny. The stream itself was a glorious return to form, with the professional jerk living up to his namesake, doing sketches, and even winning his very first round, all while complaining about how terrible the game is.
But hey, for those who missed him, it must have been a great time.
